How It All Started
It began with a frappé and a big question from kurzgesagt's founder Philipp Dettmer: “Why does our calendar only start 2,000 years ago?”. That question sparked an idea, then a video, a movement, and a special calendar. What started as a small experiment became a yearly ritual: a visual, handmade celebration of human history.
Why We Add 10,000 Years
Humanity's story didn’t start 2,000 years ago... it began over 12,000 years ago, with the rise of farming, cities, and shared knowledge. By adding 10,000 years to our current calendar, we give the full arc of civilization the space it deserves. It's a simple change with big perspective.
